Histoire
The Priory of Bray was founded by Guy le Bouteiller, Lord of Senlis, in the will he wrote in 1248 before leaving with Saint Louis for the Seventh Crusade, during which he died in 1249 upon landing at Damietta in Egypt.
Of the original religious buildings, the Gothic chapel, built between 1259 and 1263, remains the main part. Major restoration work began in 1996 with the complete renovation of the framework and roof. It continued from 2004 to 2014 with a complete overhaul of the building (foundations, vaults, walls, floor, bays, etc.).
Since 1999, the progressive development of the site has made it possible to organize cultural events and training courses. Nearly 4,000 people were welcomed for the shows Peau d'Âne in 2005 and Cyrano de Bergerac in 2011. In May 2014, the show "A Shard of Stone and Light" marked the 750th anniversary of the founding of the Priory. Each year, our Bray meetings, concerts, exhibitions, training sessions, and conferences are offered to enthusiasts. In 2021, the exhibition of sculptor Jean Pierre Augier welcomed nearly 1,400 participants. Thank you for visiting our page to discover the 2025 program.
